On 23 August 2006 we went for short retreat to Bekelah. Bekelah was about 1 hr 30 minutes from Kuantan. We took the Kuala Terengganu bypass to Jalan Gambang, an old road to Kuala Lumpur which was still busy and a choice of many eventhough the new highway offered pleasant non stressful driving.
At Kg Gelugur, we took a right turn, travelled off road and reached the first base camp 20 minutes later. The camp provides shelters, parking lots and at weekends hawkers selling snacks and drinks.
From the first camp, we had to walk for another 20 minutes before reaching the first fall. The track was not that difficult. It was relatively flat with lalangs and light secondary forest. There was a big pool to swim at the first fall.
We continued with the track along Sungai Bekelah which was quite slippery due to early morning rain. The climb was steep, lots of obstacles and quite challenging. We reached the second pool 30 minutes later. As it was already occupied and we seek privacy, we continued climbing until we found a suitable place 45 minutes later. We took a dip in the cold but refreshing water.
It was quite an experience for the kids as it was their first time climbing Bukit Bekelah higher than the second pool.
